International Tarsier Day

On May 4th celebrateyoda tarsier

International Tarsier Day . . . Night!

May the Fourth be with you . . . and the tarsiers!

Many Star Wars fans celebrate May 4th as Star Wars Day

Tarsiers bear an uncanny resemblance to Yoda, and there are rumors that Yoda’s appearance was inspired by tarsiers.  That’s why a group of primatologists, including us at tarsier.org have designated May 4th as International Star Wars Day . . . Night!

To celebrate International Tarsier Day we are happy to announce the discovery of two new tarsier species, Tarsius spectrumgurskyae and Tarsius supriatnai.  The new species are named for Dr. Sharon Gursky and Dr. Jatna Supriatna, both scientists who have played a crucial part in the science and conservation of tarsiers, and more broadly, conservation effort in Indonesia. These new species will help conservation efforts of tarsiers and their habitat.  This will help conserve all the other plants and animals that share their habitat in Indonesia.

Currently tarsier.org is raising money to fund the scientific research and discovery two more tarsier species, which we hope to describe later this year.  Please visit our website and click on What You Can Do, or visit our Go Fund me page here.
